Types of braces

Metal (traditional) braces

Traditional metal braces are what most people think about when they hear the word “braces”. Even though modern metal braces are not as notorious as they used to be, some decades ago, they still keep the same style and working mechanism as they have always had.

A big advantage to today’s metal braces is that they are not as painful as they used to be and new technology makes the total time of the treatment faster and safer than ever.

Lingual Braces

These types of braces are the same as traditional braces, but the mechanism is in the inner part of the denture. Some people prefer this option since it is invisible to others. However, this requires appropriate cleaning by the user and is more expensive than traditional braces.

Invisalign

This is a very popular new option among people seeking to get orthodontic treatment.  Invisalign consists of a series of custom-made clear, mouth guard-like, plastic aligners.

These aligners are removable and replaced every two weeks. Many look forward to this type of treatment since you don’t need to change your diet as you do for other options.

Also, they are the least noticeable type of orthodontic treatment available on the market. So, if you are thinking about getting orthodontic treatment, but you don’t like the traditional braces style or you don’t like having restrictions on what you can eat, then Invisalign is a good option for you.

The only con about this option is that since the plastic aligners need to be custom-made every couple of weeks, this makes the cost go up in comparison to other treatment options.

Ceramic braces

Ceramic braces work with the same mechanism as metal braces, the only big difference being that ceramic braces are tooth-colored. Sometimes the wiring is also tooth-colored, which allows them to blend in with your teeth, making them less visible than most other options.
